Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans

For a movie called "Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans," the film is mostly interested in one character. This problem is so predominant, the score purely depends on the emotion of the one character. I still think it's a decent movie, especially in the first half, but I also think it has glaring weaknesses.

Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans

Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans

I love the technical and filmmaking tricks on display here, but the story is far from impressive.

Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans

Another F.W. Murnau film where a character played themselves by trying to meddle into other people's business with the intent to hurt. Yes more of that please; love that from him. There's scarcely any title cards, but Murnau's ideas are conveyed so well because of the editing & transition decisions made; they are truly unparalleled. The most noteworthy of them has got to be the dissolving of natural scenery to potential city life as the pair look onward through a car windshield (almost), at the superb & transportive imagery painted in their mind. As well as visualization of the now clichéd and cheesy descriptions of love, like, disappearing to your own little world, unaware of the ones around you, or simply feeling like you're in heaven. All these aspects are so creative and cool; even though it's my second Murnau, it already seems that he could direct the fuck out of a film. Also, it is not a 100% silent — there's a vocal song that plays at around the 1:10:16 mark & came out of nowhere whaaa', I'd like to know the reasoning behind that. The weird thing is that it didn't feel at all out of the ordinary until I remembered it was a silent film; maybe because it does have a lot of similar sound effects, unlike others?
