Although it appears I'm not the only one, it did in fact also take me way too long (15 minutes to be exact) to realize that was Peter Fonda and not Jack Nicholson. The soundtrack: 10/10 The setting: 10/10 The cast: 10/10 The story: 5/10 The ending: 2/10 Riding a motorcycle and looking like Peter Fonda is now officially the coolest thing you can possibly do.

They’re not scared of you. They’re scared of what you represent. And what you represent to them is freedom. They see a free individual it’s going to scare em’, it makes em dangerous. Jack Nicholson absolutely stole the spotlight in this, he’s not in it long, but he sure does make an impression. I didn’t expect much from this film, but I was surprised by it. Easy Rider represents a lot of important ideas for its time; freedom, counterculture, prejudice, etc. I’m grateful the Academy included it in it’s 90 Years montage.

“𝘋𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘤𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘦𝘴 𝘢 𝘮𝘢𝘯’𝘴 𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘶𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘵 𝘢𝘴 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘰𝘳 𝘣𝘢𝘥..” Lush landscapes. Hippie cowboys. Slow pan of expressionless concubine faces to juxtapose the empty expanse of the American west. Jack Nicholson by ways of a yet-to-become Jim Carrey. All a reshaping of ethos on living. One of the first sights of New Hollywood to pave way for how we look at the cut, how it can drive narrative but explain character psychology by sight and sound. I love when we come to breaking points. When things fall apart. Not just to explain the ongoings of our current climate, but how we can shift into big new territories in self-expressionism. There is a freedom here, a yearning, an unleashing, so apparent in the political body, but also as the country at large. You forget that sometimes a single body does in fact explain the ennui of an entire nation. A pleasure for all you beatnik bitches and carwash Kerouacs out there.

Is that a doobie??
Easy Rider
Moral of the story is "rednecks suck", I guess. One of the most frustrating endings to a film I've ever seen.

a lot more…chill than i expected it to be? very clearly inspired by french new wave whether that was at the front of hopper and fonda’s minds or not. big reason for a lot of my favorite cinema of the 70s so i can’t hate it too much
