Vou começar dizendo que apesar de ter diversas cenas onde senti bastante vergonha alheia, consegui me divertir quase que na mesma medida. Acho que quando você chega aos 40 e é sozinho na vida é meio normal você se blindar de sentir qualquer coisa nova por uma pessoa que pode ir embora no dia seguinte. Lgbts com essa faixa etária provavelmente conseguem se identificar mais com esse filme. O protagonista em si, acho que foi feito pra ser meio detestável pq ele critica mts coisas e basicamente faz todas essas coisas que ele critica. Um pouco incoerente eu diria. Mas ele tbm é mt real, o que torna ele identificável. O par romântico dele teve seus altos e baixos mas no geral eu achei ele fofo e como casal eles tiveram uma dinâmica estranha mas que no mundinho deles funciona muito bem. Acho que ficou bem óbvio quando cada um se apaixona pelo outro, ambos em tempos diferentes e por motivos diferentes. Gostei de conseguir observar esse detalhe entre eles. Uma frase dita pelo protagonista me deixou até que bastante pensativo, que foi a seguinte: “Mas isso não é justo, eles tiveram glee de referência e nós tivemos HIV” extremamente duro e cruel saber que as gerações passadas tiveram que viver seu amor em segredo e não ter tido referência praticamente nenhuma de lgbts vencendo e construindo um legado. Um dos problemas desse filme pode ter sido a dublagem, achei bem ruim.

It feels like damning with faint praise to call this one of the best romantic comedies in years, but that’s exactly what this is. It’s a pretty standard, by the numbers, romantic comedy, and it’s fucking funny, and full of heart. As fun as Eichner is, it’s nice to see him a little toned down and more relatable. um ótimo filme lgbtqia+, traz de tudo que você espera em uma comédia romântica de sessão da tarde, com uma representatividade diversificada da comunidade lgbtq+ sem parecer forçado ou estranho. falou sobre temas importantes e tocou em assuntos complicados sem torná-los o foco do filme e tirar a essência da comédia romântica. mostra o quão diversos podem ser os relacionamentos para além do modelo cis heteronormativo e a dificuldade em abraçar a própria vulnerabilidade e compartilhá-la com outra pessoa. tudo isso, sem deixar de mostrar o quanto os impactos de ser lgbtq+ numa sociedade preconceituosa. mas nada de final triste clichês em filmes gays por aqui ao terminar de maneira super positiva, em todos sentidos. 🩷💜💙

white gay men can either be hilarious or obnoxious, but never both. and billy eichner is not hilarious. a few good jokes, and once or twice it managed to be insightfulabout modern gay dating culture, but honestly it just made me want to go watch an actually good gay rom-com (fire island, the birdcage, love simon, dashing in december, etc.) bros definitely could’ve been improved with a few more drafts of the script to make the writing sharper and the overall narrative more tightly paced. as is? i found this to be all over the place, stuffed with hit-or-miss jokes and undercooked plot threads. the most egregious aspect of the film for me is that it doesn’t fully develop the romance between the leads, i never once bought that they loved each other. for a film that’s already too long, you would think this wouldn’t be a problem. i’m sure a lot of this will work for other people. that’s great! i can only hope that if bros is a success that this means we can get more gay centric rom-coms (and other genre-films) because i mean, if straight people are allowed to be mediocre and have their films succeed, why not us too? (also, fucking hell. god bless luke macfarlane and his tits. he deserves a big break in hollywood, he’s been working hard for years. i hope bros is that for him.)
