The Thing
If you're wondering if the bad CG at least held up a little bit in modern watches instead of only looking worse: it didn't. If you're wondering if even/at least Mary Elizabeth Winstead being Mary Elizabeth Winstead, this time occasionally with a flamethrower, could salvage this thing: she couldn't. If you're wondering if this does enough new or unique to justify being a serviceable "prequel" or if it does a quality enough job of retracing the original's steps to be a worthy "reboot"/"reimagining": it doesn't. If you're wondering if at least the post-credits scene is worth a view on Youtube: it's not. The creators of this can call it whatever they want, and you can oblige or disagree with them all you want, but at the end of the day when I think of textbook Unnecessary Remakes, the poster for the 2011 Thing is the first image to pop up beside it, and it still might be the most I've disliked one this decade. Adding an extra star because I rewatched this right after a shitty Syfy Original and while I hated this more than that, 1) I wasn't anywhere near as bored, 2) at least there was gore, 3) at least there was Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and 4) it made me appreciate how more competently made this was in comparison.

The Thing
This was okay, offering some decent scares, but overall lacks in genuine terror, unlike the version John Carpenter came out with. It’s a fun film, but one that I’ll likely forget about in a couple of days.
The Thing
