A Separation

A Separation

This film didn't need to have any plot twist. It was just a slowly paced plot with amazing acting. It's unreal. Sometimes it seems like they are kidding with us by showing such an amazing environment-capturing. It leaves you breathless. And the ending was as usual not much of a biggy. Cause' the writer doesn't want to dwell on climax but to portray a natural story without any complexities. Things unfold. Don't get worried like me. It was a fucking nightmare.

A Separation

I don't think i can give a rating for this movie, it's a good movie, but damn i was also very mad to this movie, start from divorce and it went anywhere, too much problem that make my head so hurt. Now eat that ego.

A Separation

96/100 Check out my 5 star rated films - boxd.it/oBwAc (https://boxd.it/oBwAc) I need to watch more Iranian films because holy fucking shit. The writing is so strong that every single line is quite literally unquestionable. Every scene whether it be conflicts or just simple conversations, there is weight to each line. You get the feeling that this is exactly how it would pan out. The writer doesn’t remove the bearings of reality just for it to be simple. He makes it simple by boxing them in the exact scenarios which is why I really can’t think of what else I would say throughout the entire film. There’s no loopholes because by the end, you understand how every character is dealing with the situation in a way that is absolutely right from their perspective. Nader’s character deteriorates over the film but ultimately, he didn’t do it and that is proven. He may have done some questionable things, especially in the eyes of his daughter which ultimately caused his daughter to lie because she could not imagine life without her father which again is immoral but how can you possibly blame an 11 year old for trying to protect her father. Simin seems like the villain of the sob story at the start but because this is not really a tale about his father and more about the troubles coming from a separation which starts this domino effect leading to the mess the film portrays, you can understand her reasoning by the end. All she wanted was a good life outside Iran. She’s educated and wants a better life for her daughter outside, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. Hojjat is annoying but that’s credit to the actor playing him and again, it’s completely understandable because he’s acting based on the truth that has been told to him. If you’re a man who’s unemployed and in heavy debt then you lose a child to miscarriage and you find someone to blame, you’ll take it. He says it’s not about the money constantly because he thinks he’s moral but I think deep down, that’s all it was for him. He saw it as an opportunity to get out of his depressing life and maybe come out better; not saying he’s not hurt but he’s more angry than hurt. And Razieh was the star of the show in my opinion. She’s the most complex character because she’s dealing with every single problem. She didn’t steal the money and she tried to care for his father but pregnancy and care worker do not go hand in hand. Unfortunately, she’s helpless, she knows she shouldn’t be doing this job but they’re in debt and she has to work even if her husband would not allow it. She doesn’t tell the truth to Nader because she thought he would fire her as would be his right because Nader’s father could literally have died. She loses her child because of not being attentive because she’s not in the condition to do this work but she has to… you see where I’m going with this. Every action a character does in this film has an explanation and that is honestly the best thing I could ever ask for in a film. And finally props to Mr. Ali Asghar Shahbazi for playing an Alzheimer’s patient so wonderfully, not for a second did I think this man was acting, phenomenal job. The question that Asghar Farhadi poses to us at the end is one of judgement, it’s one of our understanding of the film. I think Termeh ultimately chooses her father because now that she knows he didn’t do it, she knows staying with him still gives her parents a chance.

A Separation

Asghar Farhadi always succed to bring issues that are very close to society into a movie in a incredibly wonderful way. For me, A Separation is his best works, so far.

A Separation
