Spielberg’s alien movies are really weird, and that’s the best part about them. They don’t always make sense, but they capture emotions. A lot of moments are undeniably cheesy and very much a product of their time, yet the emotional core still hits. The final act especially is pure Spielberg — sentimental, overwhelming, and unapologetically heartfelt.

Uma das coisas que devem fazer é localizar o coração e ver que continua funcionando Há algo profundamente triste em perceber como o medo do desconhecido pode nos tornar duros e até mesmo cruéis. Enquanto isso, são as crianças que entendem as coisas primeiro: elas protegem, cuidam, confiam. E.T. fala sobre saudade, conexão e a certeza silenciosa de que ninguém está realmente sozinho — we are not alone. O filme tem essa mistura de encanto e melancolia que fica com a gente muito depois de acabar. É simples, mas forte, e talvez por isso funcione tão bem. ps: foi impressão minha ou aquela boneca feia e esquisita parecia a Annabelle?
