A film with lovable characters and a ton of charm, The Half of It was a surprise for me. I usually don’t go for coming-of-age dramas, but after a friend recommended it, I thought I might as well give it a shot. I’m pleasantly surprised I did, since I easily fell in love with the main character, and even when the film had me wanting to pause becuase of embarassment, I still stayed, and I’m glad I did. It’s nice to see a film embrace being LGBT without being completely blunt about it, allowing the character to grow and discover new things like any other teenager would. I really enjoyed The Half of It, and wouldn’t be too mad if they decided to make another one.

The Half of It is a sweet, poetic, and unconventional coming-of-age story about self-discovery of a teenager while also exploring different kinds of love. Alice Wu’s sensitive direction & screenplay makes it totally unlike any other of Netflix movies I’ve ever watched.
