Cave of Forgotten Dreams
Werner Herzog totally proves himself worthy of being our eyes into a place that most of us will never get to see in reality. to me, this documentary covered all ground in a way that was never boring, always fascinating. He focused on the right people for the right duration, asked them interesting questions, and gave us a window into their process. it was cinematic & gorgeous, even transportive; he also showed how these paintings in the cave could've possibly looked like to their makers. his musings on the subject of cave, art, cinema, humaneness etc. were beautiful at times. some were insightful, and some were really funny! bringing us gems like: "we're going to listen to the silence in the cave and perhaps we can even hear our own heartbeats." and then the camera glides at people looking introspective, with clearly what is music & added heartbeats playing in the background, and sound of the actual water dripping in the cave. then focuses on a painting: "is this their heartbeat or ours?" ofc that is not to say that they didn't hear anything. probably recreating what they heard or felt. and it is in no way a shade. it was just a moment that made me like him even more. a cute idea with funny execution. probably was powerful to some, just like how the eerie sensation he later mentioned reached me. An incredibly cool and fun experience!! highly recommend.
