A Bridge Too Far
Great all round war flick about the errors and failures of the Market Garden operation, with characters that you can feel for. I do think it’s too long for what it is, and definitely could have been cut down by about half an hour. The cast here is absolutely stacked though with some fantastic names. I think one of my favourite performances in this is Robert Redford, along with Anthony Hopkins and Dirk Bogarde. I think the story is told well and I think it’s cool that even back then they weren't just making war films about the allies always winning. It’s not a perfect film but that are some incredible shots in this and some striking imagery about the war. Definitely not one of the best war films I’ve seen but it’s a clearly a classic that deserves its praise. “When one man says to another, "I know what to do today, let's play the war game…”, everybody dies.”
