The Man Standing Next
God, I forgot how good a political thriller can be when done right. Focusing on the assassination of then dictator Park Chung-hee, The Man Standing Next brings some of the most intense moments in film this year, with some absolutely fantastic performances. It’s an airtight thriller that manages to give a different view of history, one that may have been, or one that is only speculated. I was going to pass on watching this film this year, leaving it for my January watches, but I’m so glad that I took the time to watch it, since it really is one of the better films of the year.

Un film très intéressant sur le papier, les derniers jours du président 박정희, assassiné par son directeur de la KCIA 김재규. Le thriller est maîtrisé, la tension est palpable dans chaque scène, les séquences en France sont juste sublimes. Néanmoins ça pêche un peu sur certains points. Le début est un peu confus, la fin remet les pendules à l’heure et conclue de manière abrupte. À noter que la version visionnée a été tronquée de 10min. Ça reste un film agréable à regarder, sublimé par le jeu de 이병헌.
