The Mummy

The Mummy

Old school adventure fun with surprisingly ok special effects. Not a good movie by any means, even when compared to the 30s and 40s exotic adventures it’s obviously inspired from, but a kind of cheap guilty pleasure.

The Mummy

cats rule and dogs drool! -- The Mummy, probably Mr. Karloff is just so good at gazing and looming, it moves up to and past ridiculous into "holy shit he's looming over her in front of everyone it has been whole minutes no one is stopping the looming oh god". Such a great wasted-away, dried out look.

The Mummy

So I definitely have seen bits of this here and there in my childhood, but those memories are hazy at best, so I’m calling this my official first watch. This has a lot going for it; the visuals/lighting, cast/performances, score, and blending of genres (adventure/horror/comedy) are all great. The only thing keeping this from reaching 5-stardom for me are a few certain aspects that have not aged very well, but this is still a certified classic.  Intrusive thought: why did we stop using screen-wipe transitions in movies?
