Diary entries forConstantine
Constantine
I enjoy how the pre-MCU superhero genre was like the Wild West. Studios would just try anything and see if it worked. I think aesthetically, this movie works really well. All the sets are gorgeous, and the parallel hell world is really cool and kind of reminded me of what would become Stranger Things upside-down world. The cast, well, it's ok. Keanu Reeves isn't the best Constantine; he's fun, and he brings that Keanu Reeve-ness to the role, which is good in its own right, but the guy from the TV show years later did a much better job. It was fun to see Gavin Rossdale in an acting role. He plays a pretty good demon. The two standouts, though, are Tilda Swinton as Gabriel and Djimon Hounsou as Papa Midnite. Shia LaBeouf, now that was a funny surprise. He was fine. Definitely a “style over substance” kind of movie, but I enjoyed it for what it is.
Constantine
I've rewatched this so many times with my mom since middle school. I always thought it was really cool, especially the angel. It still amazes me every time I watch it.
Constantine

Goated character
Constantine
80/100 Well at least he finally quit because he got a reason to live. Satan did good. This whole film is just me fixated on Rachel Weisz and craving a cigarette. Man she is beautiful, quite easily one of the most effortlessly and naturally beautiful women ever born and to add to that, a really versatile and great actress too. Constantine surprised me, I thought it’d be a poor rendition of what I see in the animated films and shows because I love that character with the Scouse accent just being the ultimate badass that even Batman has to rely on. Yet even with the American accent, Keanu managed to capture the essence of him accurately, a depressed tortured man who really just wants to get it over with because he believes some deal he’s made about getting to heaven will be honoured. He’s a walking nightmare for himself. However, in our eyes, that makes him an absolute badass. Him paired with Rachel was a power duo, they had great chemistry and the transition from John being soulless, smoking cigarettes doing his quota to a now caring, positive and nicotine gum chewing man is really the film to watch. It’s a shame neo-noirs are poorly rated because they all have such style and complexity about them and while they do derail at times which this definitely does, they manage to make sure you have a memorable viewing experience and really that’s all one needs. Constantine 2 might finally be coming. I couldn’t be more excited. I’ll watch the show soon, the Scouse accent should improve upon this.

❝We're born capable of terrible things, but then sometimes something else comes along and gives us just the right nudge.❞ ∘₊──── • ♧ • ✧ • ♧ • ────₊∘ This film was an absolute banger. I haven't read the comics, so I can't say if it's a good adaptation, but in similar fashion to Blade, it went incredibly hard. I love films based on religion/mythology, especially when they're set in modern times, so to me the plot was really interesting and I was engaged the whole time. There were so many cool props and weapons, and great designs for Heaven, Hell and the various characters. The CGI could've been better, but I'll give it a little leeway since it's from 2005. The acting all around was pretty good, though there were a couple of moments where I felt that Keanu Reeves' performance was a little wooden (thankfully not many). Rachel Weisz's accent also made her line delivery a bit monotonous. Tilda Swinton (my queen 😩🙏) was perfect for Gabriel, and I absolutely loved her scenes. I think Constantine would go even harder on a big screen, so that's what I'll be doing next time I watch it, and now I'm excited for the sequel. Hopefully it's just as good, if not better than its predecessor.
