Revisitar a passagem de Verhoven pelo cinema hollywoodiano é reveladora ao perceber como o holandês assimila sua lógica grosseira e frontalizada ao despir as estruturas sistemáticas de poder estadunidense - o imperialismo fascista do militarismo em Starship Troopers e o lamaçal do show business em Showgirls são exemplares dessa acidez política do cineasta. A não aceitação inicial acompanhada do escárnio da crítica - aquela mesmo que ocasionou estragos incontestáveis para as gerações seguintes de críticos (https://www.rogerebert.com/cast-and-crew/paul-verhoeven) - é sintomática dessa postura provocativa e, por inúmeras vezes, burlesca com a qual Verhoeven se apropriava do modelo de blockbuster para estruturar sua perspectiva acerca dos Estados Unidos. Robocop, seu primeiro trabalho inteiramente feito em solo americano, além de não fugir a regra, é mais evidente do que inicialmente aparenta ao contestar a força policial como inerentemente totalitária, se apropriando do medo como ferramenta de controle e ordem. Essas contradições recorrentes em sua unidade - a trilha edificante que desenha musicalmente as patrulhas brutais do personagem-título por Detroit - ratificam a compreensão da organização sistêmica do país como percussora da violência institucional e do corpo como posse do estado, desapropriado do indivíduo e alienado para obedecer a programação de superiores. Seu discurso não é verbalizado ostensivamente, mas composto através do modo que Paul Verhoven encara a barbárie menos com glamour do que com impetuosidade pelas suas lentes - e, por isso mesmo, é lamentável ver pessoas (leia-se: adultos) resumirem a experiência de Robocop nesse prazer pelo consumo da violência ou converter o protagonista em mais um totem cultural desse "fenômeno nerd" das últimas décadas.

Robocop is an absolute riot, graphic in its violence, but is so much fun to watch. It’s a shame that it took me this long to get to it, but I’m so glad that I finally took the time to get to see this film. Verhoeven hasn’t let me down yet, and Robocop certainly was worthwhile.

Shooting a criminal in the dick is still the greatest thing to ever happen in cinema history.

When Murphy removes the mask for the third act it’s genuinely powerful. One of the huge missteps in the remake with having him be bare faced and acknowledging his humanity the whole time. Miguel Ferrer was truly one of the best.

What a fucking fantastic film. Verehoeven deserves to be thought of as one of the greatest filmmakers of the late 20TH century.

Eu lembro que quando terminei o Robocop de 87 pela primeira vez, foi uma sensação absurda de boa. Mas esse versão infelizmente não passa de uma sombra mal renderizada do original.

[Director's Cut] 🗣️ 🔥🔥Robo-Dudes Rock 1987 Whenever the pookie Albert aka #1 cop rage baiter aka bob "asshole" morton aka Miguel Ferrer was onscreen I was having a good time But I mean I feel like you would have to actively try to have a bad time with this masterpiece of sci-fi, body horror, and over the top action. So stylistically rich, witty, and plainly: a well put together piece of cinematic magic. Not to mention even tho louis is a cop (kinda taking off hottness points by default) it's still always nice to see a short haired baddie in action 😼😼😼

"I LIKE IT (https://youtu.be/o6F6u5TIUbI?si=KKtMiiMpua18OJeI)" The social commentary is good (militarized police forces should actually be a crime), Murphy's face card is not declining, the interwoven tv clips that provide realistic world building and exposition work so well especially when the protagonist views the world through a type of screen. Omg i love the animation on the giant robot (the one that is really stupid) and overall the look of the special effect is done so well. The stunts and deaths look so brutal. And the villains are so silly. Overall such a fun watch with a lot of good humor (i was giggling throughout 🤭🤭)
