Diary entries forHiroshima Mon Amour
Hiroshima Mon Amour
Genuinely on of the most beautiful yet devastating films I’ve ever seen. Brief romance and tragedy combine to make horror in the most profound way, and the suspense of it all. This film captures past trauma like no other, and shows a side of people which isn’t always there on the surface. One of the greatest films I’ve ever seen.

“Madness is like intelligence. You can’t explain it, just like intelligence. It comes over you, consumes you, and then you understand. But when it’s none, you no longer understand it at all.”
Hiroshima Mon Amour
“— You’re like a thousand women in one. — That’s because you don’t know me.”
Hiroshima Mon Amour
“I’ll remember you as the symbol of love’s forgetfulness.”
Hiroshima Mon Amour
"i'm beginning to forget you. forgetting so much love is terrifying"
Hiroshima Mon Amour
This felt very much like reading a book. I loved it.
Hiroshima Mon Amour
Hiroshima Mon Amour
you're destroying me. you're good for me. an incredible film about memory and the subconscious. a depiction of a relationship as a metaphor for memory and the not so immediate reactions towards catastrophes. the opening scene is pure poetry, all the texture and expression. shots bodies curled up covered in ash, intertwined with the haunting imagery of the hiroshima bombing aftermath and the back and forth dialogue, thank you to marguerite duras' writing and that wonderful score. i will admit to not quite having a complete grasp of this film, maybe a second viewing will bring about a clear and focused meaning to it. beautiful film nonetheless, it's a film where much like the story that's taking place you have to savor every single moment. you saw nothing in hiroshima
