Diary entries forLe Samouraï
Le Samouraï
Very little dialogue, beautiful cinematography and an interesting plot. A lot to love about this, a fun simple time, the cop was my favourite character and performance. The suits and hats are also very cool.
Le Samouraï
Another legend to remember, rest in peace, Alain Delon.

Le Samouraï
Le Samouraï is a very cool assassin film by Jean-Pierre Melville. The film is nicely slow-paced and has relatively little dialogue; I'm a big fan of films like this. In my opinion, Alain Delon as Jef Costello exudes his aura throughout the entire film, precisely because he hardly speaks and is dressed so coolly and old-fashionedly. I love him. Overall, a very strong film that I would rate 4.2/5 ⭐.
Le Samouraï
There are many films from various filmmakers that are still as relevant today as they were upon their initial release. Le Samourai is one of those rare films that still influences filmmakers today, leaving a lasting impression on the film industry as a whole. 50 years after the release, Le Samourai still feels as relevant as ever. It's a masterpiece of a film that offers a perfect blend of atmosphere and action, all the while having a terrific performance by Alain Dolan. Le Samourai is one of the most influential films of all time and it's still clearly seen in films today, making it one of the most powerful films to grace the silver screen.

72/100 Of course Jane and Jef were married in real life, potentially the most gorgeous couple ever? Speaking of which, wouldn’t Jacques have been a much better name, Jacques Costello instead of Jef. Sounds more French and more gangsta. Criterion remasters are something else man because what do you mean this was shot in the 60s looking like that? Alain Delon’s job was to aura farm and the DP just had to film him in portrait lone shots as much as he could. The guy he killed must’ve been powerful as hell because why the fuck are the police putting so much effort and resources into this? Although we’re rooting for Jef here, one could only imagine how the world would be if cops did their work like they do here, albeit using unconventional methods but you gotta do what you gotta do. A good film that relies heavily on our lead entrapping the audience in his class and demeanour and while he is captivating enough, the film doesn’t do enough for me. 100 minutes felt long, especially as it went on. There’s a lot of pointless cat and mouse and looks can be deceiving because Jef looks like the perfect killer but really is a culmination of bad choices by the end. That’s a good looking man though, sheesh!
Le Samouraï
I did not log this immediately after I finished it because I was reflecting on the ending and contemplating whether this was a 5-star movie or a 4.5-star movie. Having taken a while to think about the ending and the way it could be interpreted in multitudinous ways—control, honor, or even love—makes it so frustrating, yet so fascinating. You know, that's the beauty of art—and cinema is art—is that every person can interpret it in their own view. See a bit of themselves in it, therefore seeing this ending with a different eye from the person next to them, and I think at the end both would be right. More or less. That's why I ended up giving this 5 stars. Also, I refuse to believe Alain Delon is a real person. 😭😭
