Diary entries forThe Wandering Earth
The Wandering Earth
The visuals are absolutely stunning, but the out-of-this-world plot left The Wandering Earth aimlessly wandering, leaving viewers in it's space dust. Visually, this film is impressive, and shows just how good the budget was for the film. But, it seems a majority of the budget went to the visuals, leaving everything else lacking. The script was basic, with little depth to the central characters, with the few connections between them being the only truly interesting thing about them. I had very high hopes for this film, as I had heard marvelous things about it, and it's my fault for letting other opinions influence me, since I went in with higher expectations than I should have. Overall, The Wandering Earth is a visually stunning film, but is a bit lackluster everywhere else.
The Wandering Earth
This felt too flashy to the incredibly story by Liu Cixin. Graphics and renderings of earth at its most fatal and bitter end were full of fun, but there were moments in which I felt funding was lost or someone got lazy with some editing choices or background design. Regardless, I love watching people survive and catch the feels off and on to the very end. Note: A surprising film for Claire Denis as she insisted that her High Life be in English, after recognizing that all space films had to be in either English or Russian (and maybe Chinese).
