Boogie Nights

Only PTA could make the inside of a camera sexier than the sex itself.

Boogie Nights

Wild. As interesting and fun as it is I found the story pretty predictable and only really heading in one direction. It’s an age old tale of the curses of fame, but it’s told well and is very funny. Great directing and a good cast, this is a pretty good time.

Boogie Nights

Perhaps the best opening [“oner”] scene in cinema history?? The fact PTA was flexing this amount of directorial sauce at the age of 26 is incredible. I’m beyond excited to continue exploring his filmography, only 2 films deep, and he is already carving out a spot in my favorite directors of all time list. If I had to describe this movie in 3 words, I would say; sexy, vibrant, and groovy. Performances and character work are great, banger needle drops, gorgeous colors shot on film, even some well placed shoot out action scenes. The part in the donut shop might be my favorite scene (aside from the opening) and Don Cheadle’s Buck might be my favorite character along with Rollergirl. Also, the pacing was spot on, it felt like the quickest 2.5 hour film I’ve ever watched. Intrusive thought: my dude Frank Gallagher can’t catch a break, poor guy.
