Studio 54
— A haven for inclusion. The existence of the club and the documentary Studio 54 is quite recent on my radar, making all the information completely new to me. In this way, the documentary does a great job of creating a narrative capable of navigating from the beginning to the success and fall in an interesting and engaging way. I really liked the commentary on the socioeconomic context, with a fair assessment of the paradigm shift such an establishment would cause in society. Personally, one of the things most striking to me was the nuances of all the events, with success contrasting with downfall. It was fascinating to see how something was created purely out of the ambition of two young people, who did whatever it took to achieve success in order to establish a place of real freedom, acceptance, and inclusion within a society that was still learning to be inclusive. All of this to be lost in success, returning to ambition and falling due to mere beginner's mistakes. In addition, the position of a nightclub at a time of financial fragility in a country made it a huge target. Studio 54 was born destined to be short-lived, yet its impact on culture is greater and more expansive than anyone can imagine. This reflects precisely the humanity of its owners and creators, full of dreams and mistakes in equal measure. A very good journey through the peak of a much more mixed and collaborative culture, especially for someone like me who knew nothing about the place. It was a new perspective on art, success, and acceptance.
