The Turning
wtf
The Turning
For all the faults a film can have, I'm usually kind enough to ignore a decent amount, if not all, of them if the final five to ten minutes are pretty good, or even sometimes just the final scene if it's Really Good. If you can't do anything else exceptionally but you can at least stick the landing on it? Goes a long way for me. More often than not, the ending is the hardest part Films can have bad endings. And sometimes, you can even see them coming. With or without planning to: I've literally been spoiled about the bad endings of films by their own trailers, their own posters, and occasionally a film will have just fucked enough marketing that its bad ending gets spoiled by both its own trailer And poster (hi Quarantine, you piece of shit) The second paragraph is in here because I am in no way exaggerating when I say I respect those films that have bad endings more now that I can genuinely say I've seen a film that just straight up chose to not have an ending

The Turning
When the score of a film is the best aspect, there’s a significant problem. Unfortunately, The Turning ends up falling into that category. With all the style and score, you’d expect a film like this to actually be a decent adaption of The Turn of the Screw, but somehow manages to get lost in translation. It’s a muddled film, and I’m all for open endings, but it didn’t make sense in this film. The scares are okay, and the structure of the film was interesting, but this film needed some significant changes in the script to really be a compelling film. It’s a shame to see a film with a lot of potential end up becoming a muddled mess.
