Being John Malkovich
Film #7 of April 2016 Scavenger Hunt Task #14: A fictional film where an actor plays themselves. I have absolutely no idea where to begin with this film. I am astounded by Being John Malkovich. I still can't believe that a studio actually funded a movie about people going into John Malkovich's body. But I am extremely thankful that this film did get funding, since it's honestly brilliant. Cusack was stunning, Malkovich was fantastic, Diaz was great, the whole entire cast of this film was just perfect. Watching this film was like a transcendental experience, carrying me away into John Malkovich.

❝There is truth, and there are lies, and art always tells the truth. Even when it's lying.❞ · · ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · · I have no idea what I watched, and yet it was a fairly enjoyable experience. My overall conclusion: God bless John Malkovich. There was no way of predicting what was going to happen next. An initially thought-provoking plot gave way to questionable scenes and eventually some sort of sci-fi/horror story. Ultimately though, I was never bored and the pacing was well-deliberated. The camerawork from Malkovich's POV was done really well, and there were so many creative elements and a great score too. John Cusack was excellent as Craig; he embodied him so well I hated his character from the very beginning, and even more so when he started lusting after Maxine and locked Lotte up. I'm not too familiar with much of Catherine Keener's other work, but she also did good in making Maxine such a vile and dislikable person. I was half-wishing Lotte killed her, though I realised that Emily was needed by Mertin and the others. John Malkovich is a star, and it's easy to tell that he went all in for this film. He was fantastic and embodied the other people inhabiting him excellently; I couldn't stop laughing at the scene with all the Malkovichs. I'm not the biggest Cameron Diaz fan but she was great as Lotte, although a little unbearable to watch at first. Being John Malkovich is like being on crack and heroin at the same time, and I would recommend giving it a go (the film, not drugs).
