Gravity

When George Clooney tell Sandra Bullock to preserve her oxygen, she decides that the best thing to do is to breathe as fast as possible, which made me laugh. Don’t get me wrong I know she was panicking, just found it hard to believe she’d be in space with all the training and have absolutely no idea what to do in the case of an emergency. It’s a fun, anxious time with a tiny but good cast, not the greatest film ever made but still pretty good.

Gravity

Watched this more as background noise than an actual film. Zoned out more times than I can count. The visuals are cool probably some of the best space cinematography ever made. But all that beauty is completely wasted on a story that gives you nothing to hold onto. No tension that actually lands, no characters you care about, just Sandra Bullock floating and panicking for 90 minutes. It wasn't horrible. It wasn't good either. It's just a very expensive sleeping pill.

Gravity

The sci-fi watch run continues. This was definitely one of the most uncomfortable movies I've seen. I never had a fear of floating through space endlessly but now I think I developed one. Watching this for the first half or so felt so uncomfortable and I think I got motion sick. The idea is great despite this being a thriller it really felt horror like to me. But it did leave me a bit underwhelmed towards the end. The first half I really liked. But then the second half just kinda got rid of all that atmosphere. Like I get they weren't gonna be floating in space the whole film. But it just felt different compared to the first half. There is literally only 2 characters in this. Which they were mostly enjoyable. The visuals were great as well. It looked great throughout. Plus the effects look good. I feel like I liked this mostly. But I was so pulled into the ambience of open space that it kinda pulled me out a little when the vibe shifted. Plus the ending Idk if I liked or not. But this was a solid sci-fi space movie. With amazing tension and eerie atmosphere. Definitely was uncomfortable watching. I would give this a like but I'm decisive on it.

Gravity

Gravity

okay i recognize that i put myself at a serious disadvantage by not seeing this in theaters in 2013 but man… i don’t think this movie is really that good. a visual spectacle to be sure but it’s certainly aged a bit in that aspect; which i feel is the main draw here. the writing is also pretty cheesy and i could feel every moment happening before it did, though it did still manage to be pretty intense regardless. but my biggest issue is what has kept me from watching this movie for so long, and it may be petty, but i do not care. this movie won the academy award for best cinematography. this movie is approximately 90% cgi meaning this is effectively animated. cinematography is supposed to be about what the camera captures and how it reinforced the narrative. and yes, of course, it will always be assisted and enhanced by visual effects, but this movie was replaced by it. it rightfully won best visual effects but it winning best cinematography is a bit of a slap in the face to movies that were actually photographed.  i still love cuaron and lubezki but this is a one time popcorn flick.
