Diary entries forThe Dark Knight Rises
The Dark Knight Rises
i’ll keep this at 5 stars but part of me ever so slightly wants to bump down to 4.5. not today tho. this feels very nolan-y looking back, particularly in the dialogue. this feels weird to say but at times it’s almost too well written? like the conversations characters have go back and forth too perfectly, the quips and interruptions and responses are just too good, where it kinda reminds you that the movie isn’t real. well written yes because the dialogue is great, advances the plot and is often deeper than you would expect, but just is too perfect. and at times too expositiony. i get it, you have to set up plot points and the story, but there are a couple of occasions where it is much more telly than it is showy. still very fun. i love every scene bane is in. and i feel like i remember every line. i would like to see him v thanos in conversation. nolan really didn’t like to act like the batman eye makeup existed - noticed in one scene batman gets out of the bat, fresh from fighting , takes off his helmet and he is bare faced. contrast to patman, who made the eyeblack look very cool. just an observation
The Dark Knight Rises
i feel like the dialogue in this one is nolan’s best of the trilogy. good writing
The Dark Knight Rises
this movie is great, dont get me wrong. but i think it is sort of the weakest of the trilogy however, i enjoy this more than batman begins. this is an epic conclusion to the best set of superhero films that will arguably ever come out. the stakes are raised, as you would expect in a third iteration, but some of the grandiosity leaves room for plot holes. my primary complaint is that every death is anti climatic. in the dark knight, every death felt big. "earned". rachels death shakes you for the rest of the movie. in this, the two main antagonists die within 10 mins of each other and for both its kinda like, oh well. even batman is only really dead for like 2 minutes before they start to hint that hes alive. on this rewatch though i kinda wondered if it was intentional at all to consider if alfred was dreaming at the end. inception style. i think some of the ambiguity from that ending would have been cool here. because when you really think about it there is like no way he survived. lol. bane is a great villian. very quotable. the sewer fight will live on for generations. every imax scene is incredible. said this already but epic is always a good word to associate with the format. everything feels larger than life. i find it funny that gotham in this movie is so obviously an amalgamation of at least 3 big cities, NYC LA and Pittsburgh. Like, the stock exchange is clearly on wall street, then seconds later theres a chase through the streets of LA. then you see the skyline with a half built WTC. kinda surprised a little more effort didnt go into at least semi camoflauging the locations. the obvious aspects are kinda jarring. the audio mixing for banes voice is both hilarious but also completely fitting. it doesnt make sense at all, but it works with his character. ill allow it. lots of expositiony monologing. beyond the normal nolan amount. it does get to a point. some of the exposition was actually so expositiony that it made me laugh. like when selina is trying to press dagget for the clean slate and he says something like "the clean slate? the ultimate tool for a master thief with a record?" (im slightly, only slightly exaggerating) , "the software where you press a button and within a couple of hours that person doesnt exist anymore? that clean slate?" cmon lol. i do like the idea of the talia al ghul twist. the setup was half there. at least with the hole. you watch this the first time and very fairly think that bane is the one that escaped. there was just something that wasnt there enough in mirandas character to make it fully there are pay off. at the end of the day, alot of this movie doesnt make sense. but i had fun. alot of it.
The Dark Knight Rises
the bane dialogue is impeccably menacing
The Dark Knight Rises
This is a film I must’ve seen 5+ times by now, at many different stages of my life. It’s one of the films I can credit for making me love films, the first time I watched it I thought it was the greatest thing on the planet. Still to this day I love watching this film, I could watch it again tomorrow and still love it. Everyone gives great performances and I love every character, Bane, Bat and Cat. I love this film.

The Dark Knight Rises

The Dark Knight Rises
Tom hardy has given a tremendous performance as bane. Him as antagonist feels scary and undefeatable at many points in the movie. Ngl in some aspects I liked this movie even more than the dark knight. Anne slayed the role of cat woman. That jail sequence was one of the best part of the movie. The climax twist was really shocking and I couldn’t have guessed it at all. Overall a perfect ending of our batman and this amazing trilogy.
