Before this morning, only film I've ever fallen asleep in a theater watching was Lady in the Water. Welcome to the club, La Llorona Far too much to comment on like the over-reliance on jump scares; the best two of which had no impact because they were given away in entirety on the first trailer; the "of-course" ambiguous sequel tease because g*d forfuckingbid a film James Wan's even semi-involved with that isn't Dead Silence just be allowed to have a beginning+middle+end; this being the rare 90 minute film that is so glacially paced it doesn't even matter and actively feels longer than some 2+ hour films I've seen even just this month If there is a highlight to have in this utter fucking chore of an endeavor, it was the ex-priest appearing in his first scene and at one point saying La Llorona's name in what is by then in the film the Third different pronunciation of La Llorona's name. The boredom admittedly may have exacerbated my response, which was to laugh enough that I started tearing up Horror has to have a better future than shit like this

Rather than scary this movie is lowkey funny and stupid, all the character is stupid even the ghost. They can't be serious. Also this movie didn't tell much about La Llorona so i kinda confuse what she want or what is her motive. The one scene is remind me of Scary Movie scene and all i do is just giggling, also egg and ta-da? Once again be serious on horror movie.

Even after all of this time, The Curse of La Llorona is a still a huge disappointment. This easily could’ve been the most chilling entry into the Conjuring universe, but ended up relying on jump scares to make the film “scary”. There’s a few moments in the film that conjure up a decent atmosphere to deliver some decent scares, but overall, The Curse of La Llorona is just another below-average run-of-the-mill blockbuster horror film.

Using another culture to "scare" audiences honestly is one of the worst things in the world, and it truly shows with The Curse of La Llorona. Let's just make original horror films and not bank off of another culture's folklore for a cheap "scare", alright?

Because I told her to.❞ ❝You know, when my boys died, I didn't pray to God for their salvation. Instead, I prayed to her. I prayed! And I prayed! And I prayed to her to give my children back to me and take yours instead!❞ ⊱ ─── . ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁ ᯽ ݁ . ⊹ ₊ ݁. ─── ⊰ I love the Conjuring universe, but while The Curse of La Llorona has some decent elements, in the end it does a horrible disservice to the Latin American legend. The plot actually had potential, but the pacing was pretty bad, and a lot of the action/fighting La Llorona sequences felt way too long and drawn out. Most of the characters were also kinda annoying, so I wasn't really rooting for their survival, which meant a lot of the intended tension didn't happen. Linda Cardellini and Patricia Velásquez were great in their respective roles, but they weren't enough to make the watching experience that much better. Overall, I don't think this film is good enough to revisit; I think I'll stick to the Buzzfeed Unsolved episode instead.
