The Lodge
I've decided my new hot take is "I like this better than Hereditary", questions will not be taken at this time
The Lodge
was expecting something more out of this one!
The Lodge
Franz & Fiala are traumatized with kids, that's a fact.

The Lodge
Equally as tense and precise as their first film Goodnight Mommy, director duo Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala prove that they understand tension and pure, unadulterated horror. And with a cast with the chops to handle thd material, The Lodge proves that it can stand among the horror greats. This has been a film that I have been wanting to watch for a very long time now, and am not disappointed in the least. This easily could become one of my favorite modern horror films with some time. I certainly will not forget about this film any time soon, as Iâm still chilled to the core.
The Lodge
Just as stress-inducing as it was the first time I watched it, The Lodgeproves again why it is one of last yearâs strongest horror films. Directors Franz and Fiala have a clear aesthetic for their films, which is apparent in their debut Goodnight Mommyand follows over to this film. Their cold and calculated aesthetic fits perfectly with the tone of this film, with the opening setting a bone-chilling atmosphere that never lets up. This film, on a technical level, is masterful, and becomes a true masterpiece of horror cinema with the performances. Riley Keough clearly is the star here, with Martell and McHugh balancing her performance out, thus creating a beautiful symphony of a film. I can understand why people donât enjoy this film, as it is a very slow burner, and it doesnât seem like a ton happens. But, I absolutely love that this film takes its time to establish itself and really give a glimpse into who these characters are. I remember seeing the trailer for the first time for this film, before seeing The Beach Bum, and knowing I was going to absolutely love it. Iâm still so impressed by this film, and cannot wait to visit it again in the future and fall in love all over again.
The Lodge
i don't know, i blame it all on the dad
The Lodge
why would he leave his kids with someone they clearly hate and don't talk with? and have them live in the middle of nowhere?? in the winter??? i don't even blame her
The Lodge
I admire the darkness of the ending. Keough anchors the film, but the whole cast is quite good. Haunting atmosphere. Unfortunately having seen, and loved, MIDNIGHT MASS before seeing this, it definitely took a hit comparatively in its use of âNearer My God to Thee.â
