Seeing this right after rewatching Miseducation of Cameron Post felt...unfair to this. Like this just isn't That good, captivating, or had that cathartic and emotional an end. Not to say Boy Erased had none of those elements going for it, it was just all done better in Miseducation I'd still die for Troye Sivan, and I want that on the record

I’m still sobbing as I write this review. Boy Erasedshows some of the worst of humanity, showing just how dark and despicable people can be. But, it also gives glimmers of hope, showing that, despite how bad the world can be, you can still persevere and be your true self. It may be a difficult road, which is an understatement for this film, but shows that people can overcome the worst and live as their true selves. Gay conversion therapy is a barbaric “treatment” that needs to be stopped, and hopefully this film will bring at least a little more attention to this ongoing torture. I’m thankful I was able to see this film, and grateful my theater is showing it, since it is one that needs to be seen to truly understand how painful it can be living as someone who is LGBTQ+. Despite how grim this film can be, I still loved it and want to read the novel to see how close this film is, since it really was a fantastic film.

Boy erased reflects on the exploitation and discrimination on LGBTQ+ community. It's not a perfect movie but good watch.

There’s nothing remarkable about this, but there’s also nothing terribly wrong or horrible either. It’s perfectly mediocre. Which is a shame, the memoir was so potent. This is another example of a director not being able to elevate the material to its full potential.  I’m sure straight people will eat it up as it’s a movie that I feel is made for them to consume.
