More visually interesting than Oldboy, with a simpler story to follow and more cruelty to seemingly all its characters instead of just one. Someday I'll complete Chan-wook's vengeance trilogy and see Lady Vengeance too. For now as part two of a binge marathon of 3 Chan-wook films (saw Oldboy first, seeing Thirst next), this is weaker quality than Oldboy, with a less captivating lead performance, but still very good.

Chanwook Park's first entry into the notorious vengeance trilogy, full of kidnappings, torture, and baseball bats, is as bleak and violent as you'd imagine it to be. It's a somewhat relentless picture, and when it comes to sadism, it doesn't seem to hold back. Park exposes a harsh look on what it is right and what is wrong, and leaves it for the audience to decide. Despite the second half fizzling under its gratifying violence, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance is yet an arresting, if not pandering, experience from one of South Korea's best.

this movie felt chaotic but also really sad. the acting and the tension are both crazy strong as well. pcw is honestly so good at making stories feel tense and emotional at the same time, like his filmography really needs to be studied!! and song kang-ho... wdym you’re part of this and parasite?!? he truly knows how to choose great films, so respect to him for that. and that ending... i thought she was just bullshitting!!

If this trilogy has Told me anything. It’s that good people are just a moment away from madness. This was just as dark as old boy, vengeance leaves a trail and most of the time. It never ends. My favourite from the trilogy was Lady Vengeance, Oldboy and SFMV are tied for me. Also the fact that she actually knew a terrorist group and they killed the guy was nice. Usually someone being tortured would say that as a lie but it was the truth.
