Visiting Hours

A Bay of Blood: A Ranking of Slashers (1974 - 1990) (http://boxd.it/IoH8) #8 of Slasher September (https://boxd.it/1dTfc) Back in the hospital, this 1982 slasher confronts yet another row of patients and turns them into victims—that is, after its opening fifteen minutes (the same fifteen minutes that feature a jumpscare provoked by a parrot). Visiting Hours proves to be more menacing but less ridiculous than Hospital Massacre, and even less stylish than Halloween II—in fact, it wavers on the edge of all three and never fully commits. William Shatner turns up whenever he wants, extending a hand and watching a check fall in—the man seems to be the Leslie Nielson of this one. The film does get interesting when it gives the audience insight into the killer's movement and his backstory, despite its lingering spotlight on him. What I will say the film did appropriately was how it introduced a new female protagonist through the other's own crisis established in the opening—things really don't get any better than that from there on. Also: I seriously thought Tim Capello jumped out of the closet as the killer in the film's opening chase. You know, the oily saxophone slayer from The Lost Boys? 2.6/5
