The Hole

A stark black and white existential horror influence by Junji Ito, Q Hayashida, and Daijiro Morohoshi. While the character designs are inspired by manga, the animation is very American-like in its exaggerated fluidity, adding a layer of otherworldliness. It’s not groundbreaking, the ending is even predictable from the beginning, but the visual aesthetic and unnerving sound design make for a pleasant watch.
