The House with a Clock in Its Walls
#4 of 31 Days of Madness: October 2018 (https://boxd.it/25v8a) Modern horror dweller Eli Roth conjures up a pretty decent horror for the child in us; a mystery that serves both scares and humor in a fine manner, even if the story lacks full awe. Nevertheless, I happily enjoyed The House with a Clock in Its Walls — Jack Black and Cate Blanchett are almost miraculous and fun to watch when it comes to displaying their almighty presence in a family fantasy-horror — its lead character though, finely played by newcomer Owen Vaccaro, could have been better and not a run-of-the-mill type when it comes to his backstory. But, the kids won't care and you really shouldn't either — Roth serves it up in a dazzling and then some excuse for presenting magic inside a spooky household, and for the most part it works. 3.1/5
