Ever since I was a young kid, the Lizzie Borden case has been something that has intrigued me. Growing up, I used to print out full Wikipedia articles on certain people, mainly historical figures, but Lizzie Borden was an exception. I always thought her case had something else going on, and Lizzie offers another potential solution to her puzzling case. Following Lizzie and their maid Maggie, Lizzie tells the tale of forbidden love, alienation, and the drive to be who you are. Chloë Sevigny has worked for years to get this project completed, and I am very glad that she was able to, since it really is an intriguing story. Sevigny and Kristen Stewart have a chemistry that explodes on the screen, every scene that they are in fully electric. Having read about this film before seeing it, it is a shame that this isn't the full film that Sevigny was wanting to create, since the director did want to have a say in how the film was going to be. But, this film still is great. I am so glad that Sevigny's vision was able to make it to the screen, albeit an edited version, but her vision nonetheless. This film succeeds so much more than Lizzie Borden Took an Axe, which is an interesting film, but one that doesn't delve into the depths of emotion that Lizzie is able to.
