Lady Vengeance
Rounding out Park Chan-wook's Vengeance Trilogy is a movie that had mixed feelings about, most of which dealt with the first half. Maybe because these movie introduction montages have been bastardized by movies like Suicide Squad and Star Trek: Section 31, but to me the first half seemed to drag and was confused at times waiting for the real core of the movie to start. Thankfully, when that does happen, it is a really solid movie that finally begins to stand up to the previous 2 films. Lee Young-ae does a killer job, and plays the role of a demonized citizen who is troubled by her own past. The film does a good job matching the tragedies of the previous films while setting it apart functionally. The cameos of previous stars were cute too. Never distracting, and a nice touch.

I felt true hatred for a character. He got almost got all he deserved. What a disgusting human. And the ending is just so beautiful. Amazing.

The Vengeance trilogy is one of the greatest of all time, can't change my mind

Lady Vengeance
This is my third Park Chan-Wook film and I am slowly beginning to love and appreciate this man's creative gift for storytelling. In "Lady Vengeance" we follow Lee Geum-Ja and her tale of seeking vengeance after serving a sentence she didn't commit. But in the third act of the film, Director Park introduces another aspect of justice that does not solely lie in the hands of Lee Geum-Ja as the film's tone changes through a black and white lens where the idea of retributive justice flourishes through communion.

75/100 A good tale of revenge but not the most compelling or exciting, certainly by Park’s standards. You have to consider the fact that he made Oldboy 2 years prior to this and while I don’t think that’s as great a film as other people do, I still consider it an excellent thriller. Lady Vengeance is less mystifying and slightly boring. It’s not a classic revenge by any means but that doesn’t necessarily mean good. What irks me about this is the way it’s structured. I don’t really get a grasp of what type of a person the protagonist is until she tells her story later. At times, you don’t know why there are certain characters and what they are doing. While I totally understand that you don’t have to write the supporting characters in this film as well, you still need to place them well.

knocking off a film that’s been sitting in my watchlist for the longest. i think one thing i can say about park chan wook’s films is that they’re definitely like stylized. this film looks really good, liked some of the set design like her apartment with that gorgeous wallpaper. good revenge story, definitely a very dark one. third act was good. i liked the slow transition to black and white, matches the increasingly dark tone of the story well.
