Without Warning
Dude: "our friends are dead... call the police" Old Guy 1: "give him a beer" Old Guy 2: "you have to tell us more before we call the sheriff" the acting is atrocious, the writing is atrocious, two of the dumbest leads, a crazier crazy ralph. the creature design is the only good thing about this movie, the creepy little alien starfish things.
Without Warning
Night 19 of 31 Nights of Halloween I’m genuinely surprised by how much I enjoyed Without Warning. There’s a solid plot, with some genuinely likeable charactesr, and an alien design that’s simple, but effective. It’s a low-budget picture, but doesn’t let budget constraints get in the way of being creative. There’s some great practical effects as well, which made for a really enjoyable watch. It isn’t a film that revolutionizes the genre, but does its best to stand out, which I wholeheartedly believe it does. Glad I finally got to this one, since the badass poster was what brought me to it.
Without Warning
#6 of Slasher September 2019: Games, Rituals, and Sundowns (https://boxd.it/3Ql9g) A Bay of Blood: A Ranking of Slashers (1974 - 1990) (http://boxd.it/IoH8) An extra-terrestrial slasher—genius if you ask me—set in rural California and following a group of teenagers looking to camp at a lake and instead fall prey to something not of this earth. Without Warning doesn't seem to follow a clear-cut slasher formula, and that's because it isn't trying to—this thing is slow-paced, sometimes scary, and sometimes goofy. Who doesn't love a seven foot alien flinging frisbees that feed on anything it gets stuck to? That's the majority of the film, and it isn't until its third act when the killer ET is introduced, thankfully spicing up the movie with an exciting end. Its well-acted and nicely shot, and even with the offbeat pace, Without Warning isn't totally forgettable. Yeah, this one surprised me. 3.0/5
