Assassination Nation
I almost finished my top 10 of the year lists without having seen this, so glad that didn't happen. Jaw dropped. #blessed
Assassination Nation
Assassination Nation is a film destined for greatness. It's a film that is going to be misunderstood, panned by many, but eventually will gain a cult following. It's the type of film that will stay with you when you leave the theater, leaving you wanting to clear your search history, review every message you've ever sent, and make you contemplate the nature of an online presence. This film certainly is not going to be a film that everyone is going to enjoy, as many will find the plot cliched, overtly sexual, and overly violent, but that's just looking at the film on a surface level. Assassination Nation is the rare satire that knows fully what it is capable of doing, offering a horrifying, but ultimately realistic, look at modern society. I cannot name another satire that is as blunt with it's topics as this film is, which could be seen as a weakness, but really makes this film easier to process, since there definitely is a lot going on here. We are given ridiculous circumstances that seem like they never could happen, but in the current politcal culture in the United States, as well as the mentality of many Americans, this film is a grim look at a potential future, even if it does seem utterly ridiculous. This film would not have been able to achieve what it was able to without it's leads. These four leads captivate, leaving every scene they're in electrified. Odessa Young is now an actress that I will actively look out for, since she was hypnotic throughout the entire film. Knowing Bella Thorne was in the film, I was expecting her to be the lead, and was confused seeing Young as the lead, and was wondering why Thorne looked off. It wasn't until later in the film that I actually realized these were two different women. It's a shame that I was confused, since I was just assuming Thorne finally had a fantastic role, but I'm ecstatic that Young was so memorable. And it's amazing to see a transgender actress playing a transgender character, making this film even easier to watch. Knowing the content of this film, I can understand why many may find the film difficult to watch, since it's ultimately intended for younger adults to watch. Many older people may have a problem with how blunt the film is about their morals, which I had no problem with whatsoever, as this film really was made for the demographic I am in. Here, "old fashioned" values are thrown out for a progressive world, with both values clashing in a truly unforgettable climax. This film is going to anger many, as it does point out their values, but as stated before, this film is very blunt. Assassination Nation is a film that I had no clue would impact me in the way that it has. It's a film that is going to leave a lasting impression on me, topping my list of the best films of the year. Yeah, this film is slow in the beginning and cliched, but once you get into the bulk of the story, it's unforgettable. I cannot wait to see this film in a crowded theater, as I was the only one in the theater after a family left to get their money back, since the atmosphere would be electric. This film is going to be panned at the moment, but mark my words, this film is going to become a cult classic, and will be hailed as a modern masterpiece.
Assassination Nation
Dollar Tree Pickup (https://boxd.it/j8J5o) This was a lot different from what I was expecting It didn't really get good until like an hour in tho plus that ending is really dumb compared to the rest of the film very interesting plot concept it could've been done a lot better tho.
Assassination Nation
This feels like a companion piece to HALLOWEEN KILLS in how blatant and unsubtle it is int it’s commentary. The home invasion sequence is really well done, and if the rest of the film had been on that level it would’ve been pretty damn great. Instead it’s just kinda ok. Ish. I dunno. I really love when a character looks right into the camera and tells me the underlying message of the film. That shit is aces.
Assassination Nation
this is so american.
Assassination Nation
Assassination Nation
don’t stop being played by a band at the end really just ties the whole thing together
