A Fantastic Woman
A Fantastic Woman is a life-altering film. Representation is very important, especially representation that is accurate. The LGBTQ+ community has had a serious lack of good representation, so it's refreshing to see a film like A Fantastic Woman be released. It's a film that shows true grief, as well as the reactions to those experiencing grief. It's heartbreaking to see the way transgender individuals are treated, since this film depicts the daily lives for many transgender people. From the acting to the music to the cinematography to the casting, A Fantastic Woman hits 100% on every mark. It's rare to find a film that manages to hit every mark perfectly, creating a film that truly is unforgettable. Having seen all of the foreign language films nominated this year for the Oscars, this film clearly is the strongest and most deserving of the batch, and I hope that that Academy treats this film with care. It's a revolutionary film as is, but a revolutionary film for the LGBTQ+ community. Maybe this film can be the start to better, more accurate representation by casting leads that actually fit the character that they are playing.

Marina Marina Marina, our hero who is beyond the titular 'Fantastic'. It's about damn time we get some trans representation by an actual trans artist who shows us how hard it is to be human, but also how hard it is to be who she is in the face of those who see otherwise. You know, I've been excited for this movie for a long time after having seen Gloria, and Sebastián Lelio has proven to the cinematic world that he has full grasp of the human condition. Although, given by the trailer, I did expect more surrealism to play through, but throughout the film, even in the subtlest pinholes into moments of individualism, did it all seem surreal in such a harsh reality, the modern day Santiago.
