The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

Probably my least favourite WA film, and strangely the last one I hadn’t seen. It’s by no means a bad film I just didn’t really get into it, felt the whole thing moved at a strange pace and the CGI hasn’t aged well. It’s a cute story but didn’t really work for me, however the acting was good and I enjoyed seeing WA start to experiment more with his style.

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou actually feels like it could have been directed by somebody other than Anderson. He did the same camera shots, but it just didn't feel as fantastical as the rest of his films. Nonetheless, I loved The Life Aquatic (let's just shorten the title). The comedy was perfectly timed out, giving the viewer a respite from the drama going on, even if it is momentarily. The whole character of Steve Zissou (played by the always funny Bill Murray) was actually quite complex and explored deeper meanings than other films. Per usual, the ending still keeps to a "happy" ending but ultimately leaves you feeling somber. This ending is similar in feeling to that of Moonrise Kingdom, but instills a sense of sadness. This seems to be typical for his films, but this one just seemed more bleak than the rest. I ended up loving everything about this film. You could tell Anderson was trying to perfect his style, which is sucsesfully is able to do in his next film, The Darjeeling Limited. The Life Aquatic is, yet again, one of Anderson's A+ films that everyone needs to see.

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

Wow. This film is magnificent. I honestly didn't want it to end. It's packed with amazing set design, fun cinematography, great acting and uniquely timeless designs. This film really transports you into it's own world. While the dialogue is a little stilted and almost cruel, it lifts the film and it's characters. It's all very interesting! This one is my first Wes Anderson film. Are all his films like this, because if so, I am in for some fun!

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

❝Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go on an overnight drunk, and in 10 days I'm going to set out to find the shark that ate my friend and destroy it. Anyone who wants to tag along is more than welcome.❞ ⊱ ──── . ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁ ⟡ ݁ . ⊹ ₊ ݁. ──── ⊰ ranking wes anderson's filmography ⋆.˚༄ (https://boxd.it/SoFy4) Not my favourite of Wes Anderson's full-length films, but still a lovely experience nonetheless, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou is a very pretty adventure full of endearing moments. For me, the plot is a little convoluted and drags a bit around halfway through, but the final twenty minutes or so really redeems the whole thing. I loved the performances from the cast, and the Bowie catalogue sung by Seu Jorge was absolutely beautiful, complementing the general atmosphere well. I think I need to rewatch this to fully appreciate it, but for now I'll just say that I liked it, and I can see why it has a cult following.

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

Barely feels like a Wes movie besides some of the characters.  Unfortunately this is going to land lower on my Wes ranking, somewhat entertaining but too long and not as interesting as i’d like it to be.  7/10

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
