It Comes at Night

It comes at night is one of those films you finish and feel annoyed. It thinks it’s so smart and clever when really it’s boring, bland and has no real substance. It builds a great atmosphere and just when you think the film will really get going it grinds to a hold then just ends. We have no idea what’s going on, how anything happened, why people do and say the things they do and say. It just feels like a film with no idea how it wants to approach the story it’s trying to tell. Not every film needs to answer every question but I feel some context would’ve gone a long way in this.

It Comes at Night

Yet again, A24 has put out another fantastic film. Within the past couple of years, I have absolutely fallen head-over-heels in love with this studio. They produce some of the best independent cinema of the time, with their future releases looking like they're going to be just as good as the rest. It Comes at Night is no exception, as it is a beautifully shot and captivating film, a common thread for all of the A24 releases. This is a very interesting take at an infection film, as it doesn't feature much screen time of the infection itself, but is centered around those living through the times. For many films, they decide to just show the infected, show a lot of gore, and call it a day. But It Comes at Night is a completely different being, looking at the strain of strangers on a typical family, attempting to survive in the tough times. While this may seem like it would be a more boring premise compared to the more action-centered zombie films, this film manages to raise your paranoia and create an atmosphere that keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time. It's rare to find something different within the infection subgenre, since almost everything has already been done before. Luckily enough, It Comes at Night is that rare film that defies what happens in a genre, truly creating something new and unique. I am desperately needing to see Krisha now that I've seen It Comes at Night, and I am extremely excited to see what other amazing films A24 has up their sleeve.

It Comes at Night

HOOPTOBER #15 POST APOCALYPTIC FILM 2 _________ continuing the trend of “post apocalypse film with the word Night in the title where not much happens” that i unfortunately Did not like all that Much… it does a decent enough job at building tension in parts. however the characters kind of felt underdeveloped despite mostly pretty solid performances and this movie doesn’t really do anything to grab you…like i get the Point is like “the real threat is the paranoia/fear brewing among these people” like it feels like one of those classic It’s A Metaphor For Like…Something horror movies “elevated horror” or whatcha call it. it’s an interesting enough concept i just felt underwhelmed by the execution a bit.

It Comes at Night

❝You can't trust anyone but family.❞ ۫ ׅ ⊹₊˚‧ ︵‿ ₊ ୨ ᰔ ୧ ₊ ‿︵ ‧˚₊⊹ ׅ ۫ I know It Comes at Night has really good critic reviews, which might have raised my expectations, but unfortunately I couldn't really get into it. The concept was there, and I liked the performances from the cast, especially Joel Edgerton's, but it wasn't very scary at all, and I felt like the story could've been expanded upon more. I really like learning about the origins and pathway of the pathogen in apocalyptic/post-apocolyptic media, so I was a little disappointed that it didn't happen with this. Overall, I'm glad I gave this a go, but I don't think I'd watch it again.

It Comes at Night

Definitely not a horror movie but I enjoyed it.  I really loved how the aspect ratio got smaller in some scenes.  7/10
