The Adjuster

Did I literally just watch Lost Highway? Atom Egoyan is slowly creeping up in my favorites because as a blind watcher you quite literally cannot expect anything from him. You will click on something and never would’ve had a clue about what you’d get at the end. This has so many Lynchian subtleties, I actually feel like there’s a common score in here but I might be wrong. But regardless, contextually there’s a bunch of metaphorical nuances with the lives these people live, staying in a model home, censoring films showing people what you want them to see, infidelity, secretive cryptic dialogue, letting strangers into your alienated home for a price, so on and so forth. Egoyan demonstrates that the home is sacred and the home makes you, the home is our identities and that everything starts from the home. The irony in Noah helping people who lost their sacred while also invading and destroying what’s sacred, he exploits vulnerability subconsciously (or not) and ultimately destroys his own sacred and it all comes full circle because what goes around comes back around. While I think his delivery can fly over heads, I think the enjoyability of this was exceptionally high. He’s very experimental with this and it’s not so spoon fed, I had a lot of fun reading between the lines. I want to give this a rewatch during dark hours.
