CHiPS

CHiPS is the type of film that I try to avoid at all costs. Comedies have always been hits and misses for me, but it's rare to find a film that somehow manages to miss almost every mark like this film did. Female-lead comedies tend to be the comedies that attract me, since I tend to find female comedians much more funny than men, with CHiPS showing just why I think that. Sex jokes notoriously turn me away from films, but CHiPS takes these jokes to the next level. Almost every scene has at least one joke that made me cringe or was just awkward, with several jokes aimed toward women that were extremely degrading (i.e. the scene where a police officer refers to a "beautiful" officer, looks at the other women, and says that it's this one woman). Pena and Shepard seemed to have no chemistry, making any scene they were involved with awkward to watch. It's not a surprise that I didn't enjoy this film, but I am surprised at how bad the film really was. 2017 has had some interesting comedies, but this certainly isn't.
