Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark

The plot's nothing new to write home about, but the monsters are legit cool/scary-looking, and really that's what this needed to pull off, and I'm surprised at how well it was pulled off! I'm interested in what they could do with a sequel, and I don't say that often

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark

Death Note but make it like horror fairytales. I like all the stories and weird anomalies that came from the stories, can't wait for the sequel!

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is a fun adaptation of the classic children’s novels, and while it may have problems connecting the few stories it portrayed, it’s an overall strong introduction for many viewers into horror. It offers some chilling sequences with fantastic creature design, and a perfect balance of atmosphere, especially during any scene with the stories coming to life. The characters can be a tad forgettable at times, but the strong presentation of the stories themselves actually keeps this film afloat. Would I be upset if there was a sequel? No, but I’m more than happy with what they delivered here. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark may not work for everyone, but I definitely had a lot of fun watching it.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is a sleeper film, slowly crawling under your skin after you watch it, festering until you get that uncomfortable sensation that horror films should bring. It’s a mild horror film, but with some effective scares, and atmosphere for days, it succeeds in becoming a fantastic horror film. While it may rely heavily on jump scares, the designs of the creatures haunts you far after you leave the theater. I enjoyed the film the first time that I went to see it, but enjoyed it much more this time around. My largest concern with the film after my inital viewing was the atmosphere, since I hadn’t given the film the time to digest before really looking at it objectively. It offers a brief glimpse into the 60’s, and creates the small town vibe that I always want from horror films like this. Is this a perfect film? Not by any means, but it’s still a very fun introduction to horror, giving younger audiences the opportunity to find a way to get into the genre without getting into anything too harsh.
