Titicut Follies
Titicut Follies is the type of film that makes you feel grimey - once finished with it, you’re left with the feeling of disgust and horror. This may not be a technical horror film, but I’m left utterly horrified by the images presented in this documentary. It’s so saddening to know that people have been, and still are, treated in a way that is less-than-human at times. This may not necessarily be an exposé, but rather a non-biased glimpse into the mental health facilities in Massachusetts in the 60’s, but it still holds the same gravity as other films depicting the same matter, and I know that this film would have made significant changes to the facilities if it hadn’t been censored in the United States. I’m left heartbroken for those featured here, and even more heartbroken knowing that there are some places that are still run like this to this day. This really is a fascinating and eye-opening documentary that is essential viewing for anyone who wants to advocate for human rights.
