Trouble Every Day

I promise I didn't mean to do two cannibalism films in a row, it just turned out that way Every other horror film's screams sound fake compared to the inhuman guttural noises coming from the two big scenes in this one, and I don't necessarily mean that as a diss because I'd rather hear the other stuff than these ever again. Piercing and immediately comes off as something vile to be escaped, fled from Note the shame from the male cannibal (throughout really but especially) after his act, and the female cannibal essentially reveling in her act (making an impromptu art show of the aftermath). Utterly fascinating seeing Denis go this route so quick after Beau Travail

Trouble Every Day

Third outing now with Denis' films. Wow! "Sex between characters doesn’t interest me. What’s important is the sexual charge that passes between the actors and the spectators [...] Desire is violence." Her words in an interview ostensibly for Beau Travail, but given the very next day after shooting wrapped on this. For me, a poised mingling of the erotic with the clinical, of point blank with the open-ended. Hang-ups not included, bring your own. Two couples, two ways of handling this desire. The only thing I'm for dead sure on so far are future revisits.

Trouble Every Day

It seems that Claire Denis has an interest in creating worlds that show the darker, grittier side of humanity. With Trouble Every Day, we get to experience obsession, sex, and eroticism played out in horrific ways. From the films that I have seen so far, this film has been the hardest to digest, especially with the climax of the film, which honestly was harder to watch than Irreversible, which still remains to be one of the hardest scenes to get through. Despite the dark subject matter, this is still an engaging film, and with the 90 minute runtime, cuts out the filler to create a clean and concise film, with characters that are fully realized and cinematography that is breathtaking. With four films under my belt from Denis, I can definitely say that she is one of the most dynamic filmmakers I have seen, and I've barely touched her filmography, leaving me in much anticipation to see what else she has to offer. I may just have to resume my auteurs list and focus on Denis, since she truly has been putting out quality cinema.

Trouble Every Day

This film is great because Claire Denis understands that true horror is not being eaten by Béatrice Dalle, but waking up in a bath to see Vincent Gallo staring down at you.
