Fiquei surpreso de saber que esse filme é um Remake de um filme do Schumacher, o que explica em parte porque ele tem uma premissa tão interessante, mas uma execução tão básica. Seja por ser um Remake dos anos 2010 onde o cinema entra em um momento que todo filme sobrenatural precisa de uma arrecadação incrivelmente alta, então a classificação indicativa não permite que ele seja um terror mais frontal, quando flerta com o gênero ele é muito limpo e lavado e toda a questão de correlacionar uma experiência de quase morte com o uso de substâncias não tem o mesmo charme que o cinema dos anos 90, vinde Crash do Cronenberg ou O Soro da Morte do Henenlotter, ele vem de uma leva de terror pra jovens da virada dos anos 90, mas por ser muito higienizado não gera imagens tão interessantes e a premissa é mais interessante que a execução e o elenco jovem extremamente talentoso e no seu auge contribuí pra isso. Fiquei mais curioso ainda pra assistir o original de 1990!

Sometimes, upon hearing of a film that is being remade, people tend to have a negative view of them. Me, on the other hand, attempt to give each film an equal chance to live up to it's predecessor. Flatliners is a film that I haven't seen in a very long time, but is a film that I enjoyed when I first watched it. Hearing that there was going to be a remake was quite surprising, since it's a fairly new film to be remade. Sadly enough, this remake falls quite flat, leaving you with a film that doesn't feel like it's fully flushed out, and leaves you wanting a lot more than what you get. What could have been a great film ended up being a film that felt like it tried too hard to be original and different, but really ended up being a film that was as predictable as you'd think it would be. There were several twists and turns, but none of them felt genuine, but rather like they were just put in there for the sake of keeping the plot going. Once the film ended, it seemed like everything was too rushed, making the film feel like it was a last minute idea and a quick script to get the film going. Ultimately, this remake of Flatliners ended up being one of the major duds of the year, when I was hoping that it would be a better film.
