Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds
❝Let's never waste new tears on the past.❞ ──────⊹⊱✫⊰⊹────── I don't know why more people outside of South Korea aren't talking about this film, because it's miles above some very popular fantasy films/franchises. The concept behind the story is so fascinating; I'm not very familiar with Buddhism but it was interesting to see how death is viewed in other religions. I will say, though, that the idea of reincarnation and a couple of elements (like the King of Hell) are common in Hinduism too, so I didn't feel very alienated in that way while watching. Each trial had its own gorgeous designs and very cool punishments, and of course the makeup/VFX and outfits of all the people in the afterlife (including the guardians) were excellent. The CGI was definitely a little janky at times, but overall the camerawork and cinematography were so good. I loved seeing the flashbacks to Ja-hong's life as his actions were being judged, and the plot was full of so many twists and turns; I gave myself a headache from sobbing so hard watching the subplot involving his brother and mother. I didn't feel the slightly longer run-time because I was so captivated by what was happening. The entire cast was excellent, but I loved the banter between Haewonmak and Deok-choon, played by Ju Ji-hoon and Kim Hyang-gi respectively. They had huge sibling energy that helped offset some of the sadder tones. Ha Jung-woo is one of my favourite South Korean actors because he's so versatile and fantastic in every role, and this film is no exception. I was pleasantly surprised by Cha Tae-hyun; I'm mostly familiar with his more comedic characters, so to watch him display such a range of emotions was very intriguing. I don't think there were any flaws with anyone's performances, even in the supporting cast. I'd highly recommend giving Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds a go, especially if you want to watch more South Korean films. I don't remember much of what happens in the sequel because I watched it so long ago, but considering it has the same cast I'm willing to bet it's still good.
Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds
Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds is a tearjerker CGI-fest with convoluted storyline thanks to the seemingly rush editing.
Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds
I honestly wanted to see it because of the trailer and I really didn't expect it to be one of the best movies I've ever seen, very good cinematography 10/10 everything 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds
