Sickhouse
It's extremely interesting to see where film is going. With social media platforms that literally let us film our lives, it was destined that it was going to be used to create film. While this technique is interesting, it still feel like found footage. Sickhouse had an interesting, yet recycled, plot; Kids go into the forest to find a house with urban legends. It's been done many times before, most notably with The Blair Witch Project, but this was a little different. With the film being filmed via Snapchat, there was a more realistic element to it. Snapchat is used to show what's going on in your life, and it just felt a little more realistic using that. While Sickhouse was recycled, it still was interesting. I think this film could have been fantastic if the running time was severely cut down. CryptTV had created a horror film on Snapchat, which seemed to be around 5 minutes in total. Watching that seemed like a very long time; this felt like an eternity, with a running time at little over an hour. I think that the film could have been really cut down in the beginning of the film, where there was nothing really seeming to be relevant. A shorter running time, possibly around 30 minutes, would have made this film much more watchable. I think that this was a really ambitious attempt at creating something scary, using something that I use every day. I don't think that Sickhouse is the best that can be done in this format, but it's definitely a very good start. I heard that there is going to be a sequel, and hopefully they learn a little more from this film and do things differently, creating a truly terrifying and realistic horror film.
