Things We Lost in the Fire

❝You know, you gotta accept the good, man, 'cause they're gonna make you accept the bad.❞ ❝So there I am... with a bag of junk in one hand, and the money for my next fix in the other... and I feel at total, utter peace. And I wake up. One day at a time. One day at a time. One day at a time. One day at a time. Thank you.❞ ⊱ ──── . ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁ ⟡ ݁ . ⊹ ₊ ݁. ──── ⊰ Next on the del Toro roster was Things We Lost in the Fire, and I was surprised by how much I liked it since I'm not usually a fan of melodrama. It's a brilliantly acted, beautifully shot reflection on love, addiction and survival in the face of tragedy, and while it's very sad, it's not depressing because it's full of hopeful moments. Undoubtedly the best part of the film is the acting, from everyone in the cast, of course, but from Benicio and Halle Berry especially; his final monologue and the latter's portrayal of grief brought me to tears more than a few times. Overall, this was a great film, and I'm definitely going to have to revisit it in the future. → side note: i don't think anyone has ever looked as good as benicio does in this film
