The Cloverfield Paradox

Netflix is a game changer. Regardless if the provider has had a positive or a negative impact on the film industry, they have managed to change how films are presented. And yet again, Netflix has come out and added another aspect to films; surprise releases. While The Cloverfield Paradox was known to be coming out, the release date wasn't, so Netflix managing to pull a surprise release during the Superbowl truly is an achievement and definitely may be something the industry might be seeing in the future. It's a definite game changing move by the pioneers of unconventional film viewing. Since this film was a surprise release, there was little to no information about what the film actually was about. This is a good and a bad thing, since I managed to go into this film completely blind, not even seeing a trailer for the film before seeing it. I always like to go into a film knowing what other people think about it, just so I can see if I can see the same things other people see in the film. Going in completely blind actually worked in the film's favor, since there were several surprises that managed to shock me, which would have been revealed if I had watched a short trailer they had created. Science-Fiction hasn't been my forte, but the Cloverfield universe is looking to change my perception of the genre. Blending pure science-fiction with horror elements is something that's been done before, but a majority of the film manages to creep in on you, adding some shock in there, but has a slower, creeping horror to it. And while it is in the same universe as Cloverfield, it still feels like a seperate film, similar to what 10 Cloverfield Lane did. A surprise release of a film is something completely new to the industry, but it's something I can see happening in the future more frequently. Netflix surely made a big change yet again with the release of this film, but it's nice to see that it's not actually a terrible film. It's not the strongest film within this Cloverfield universe, but it's still a highly entertaining film that managed to surprise me even more than it's release did.

The Cloverfield Paradox

This is not at all what I was wanting from the third. The first two I always was wondering what caused the events and where every creature originated. This answers one of those questions. The plot this time takes place aboard a space ship for 90% of the film. Which would be a good thing if it did it well. The story I did like. I found it very interesting seeing the characters discover everything. It did start out really slow though. The main cast is underused besides Elizabeth Debicki. The characters were pretty basic for the most part. Plus a lot of the dialogue I couldn't understand or hear. This honestly didn't even really feel like a cloverfield film to me. It was pretty confusing as well with no explanation. The funniest thing is that how everything happened was explained by a random theorist on a news channel lmao. Seeing the merging of two distinct universes was cool though. My main complaint with this is that there is no creatures visibly seen until the last scene of the film. From what I got it tries to set up a sequel that never happened. But I enjoyed it 50/50. There was some solid kills and crazy effects for a PG-13 film. I just felt like this didn't really feel connected at all to the other films. It somewhat explains the lore. But I still want more creatures. Overall an ok sequel.

The Cloverfield Paradox

The Year is 2018: Ranked and Reviewed (https://boxd.it/1OIs4) The hype that surrounded this film upon release was short, sweet, and pretty fucking incredible. But now that the film is out there with such painless access, the hype has shrunk. No worries, despite the obvious reshoots and careless connection to the Cloverfield series, The Cloverfield Paradox is honestly a good-enough type of science-fiction paranoia—it's too bad its bundle of cliches slow it down. Expect a sleepy Alien/The Thing rip-off that looks and feels great, but doesn't catch on to interesting characters or a deeper sense of originality within its great cast and crazy happenings. 3.2/5

The Cloverfield Paradox

Not the next installment in the franchise I was expecting, but one that I throughly enjoyed. I wouldn’t even called this a sequel, honestly. If you’ve ever watched LOST, you should know what a “flash sideways” is. This is very much something like that. This film was derivative of other films in the genre but I will admit, it had some great mind-fucks that made me gag. The 2nd act where all that weird shit was going down? Was fun as fuck. The 3rd act was cliche as I saw that twist coming, BUT, that ending was great. As I went in not knowing anything about this, I had a good time. Don’t go into this expecting it to top 10CL, because it doesn’t and they’re 2 completely different genres.  After watching one of these, I was often left with more questions than answers, I’m not put out because that is par for the course for cloverfield series. However, eventually these films are going to have to start answering their own questions. J.J loves a good set up but rarely has he ever been able to give me a successful payoff.  Also, can we all stop pretending the first Cloverfield was like a wholly original masterpiece? It was slightly more entertaining than your average B sci-fi film and the only thing that made it interesting was the questions it didn’t answer. That’s it.

The Cloverfield Paradox

i think dimensional paradoxes are a cool thing to explore but this ain’t it it was almost there in parts, if they leant into a grotesque body horror it could have been more memorable the ending is funny i guess

The Cloverfield Paradox

La película fue empujada por un increíble empuje de mercadotecnia en su estreno y aunque sus antecesoras daban el pie para que esta tercera entrega fuera algo de que esperar la película es decepcionante, irregular incluso en las mezclas de su propios géneros.
