The Firm
Ahhh, I still like it! It was a weird time, I recall a certain span in my teens where I got into the Grisham books, the Tom Clancy's, etc., and this flick was in one of my then top tens. (Top tens, boy. Haven't done one of those in a while.) This definitely parallels with Mission Impossible for me, of a frantically calculating Cruise trying to keep all the plates spinning. I don't think I grasped back then the complications of infidelity to the plot at the time, or paid enough attention to Hackman's sad sack apotheosis, or even originally articulated most of just *what* was being faxed and all. But look at baby Jigsaw run, and oh no Briefcase Cruise doesn't know he's right there! Nah, I still like just about everything and everyone in this. Fantastic cast, great piano. Help!
The Firm
THE FIRM lost me at two distinct points. The first was trying to convince me an associate or hell, even a partner, would care about their client’s participation in illegal activities that does not directly affect them or their firm. Like yeah, right. Second? Being an almost 3 hours long adrenaline deprived thriller. A painfully slow film that takes forever to get to the meat of what it’s trying to do. It needed at least 30m snipped off the top. Tom looks great though and Gene gives an excellent supporting performance.
