For me this was simply fine. Nothing great or emotionally interesting but at the same time it’s not really a bad film. Penélope Cruz is the stand out of the film, and the story is interesting and worth telling, but I wasn’t a fan of the pacing or way it ended. A wild time which, if anything, felt too tame.

Another fine entry in the Adam Driver Pants Up To Here cinematic universe

Michael Mann continues to impress me with his filmmaking, 2 for 2 so far. The racing sequences are the shining star here, and as a certified gear-head, the sound design of the cars was immaculate. Some of the accent work wasn’t my favorite though (*cOUGH*DempseyAndWoodley*cOUgH*), but despite that we still get some incredible performances; most notably Adam Driver and Penélope Cruz. However, NOTHING could have prepared me for THAT scene, fucking brutal. Overall, a very solid biopic film.

89/100 Check out my favourite films of the year - boxd.it/qk54W (https://boxd.it/qk54W) Michael fucking Mann. He has once again made a masterpiece. Adam Driver delivers a brilliant performance. He looks the part and acts it too. Penelope Cruz was fantastic. She made me feel her side and at no point did I feel for Enzo. But despite all those personal rifts, this movie made me appreciate Enzo Ferrari for what he was - a brilliant creator, an engineer, a maker of class and a brand. Despite all his internal conflicts and ego, he managed to make Ferrari relevant at a time when it shouldn’t have been. As they say, Ferrari is not fastest, not the most comfortable, not the safest or the most powerful but it is Ferrari. The cinematography in this is exquisite, I have to wait for it to come to digital to capture some shots, especially the symmetrical and aerial ones. The death scenes were brutal and the uses of profanity were on point. And I must admit the accents were pretty good, not overdone at any point. When I saw the first trailer, I felt it to be one of the best trailers I’d ever seen but with time, my expectations lowered but I’m glad this delivered. Overall, it’s a very well crafted movie that deserves to be rated much higher than it is.

I could’ve watched another hour of this. Mann is back (did he ever leave?), and just as good as ever. The cast is great, but as with much of Mann’s filmography, it’s the technical aspects where the movie really soars. Incredible sound design, and while he may not be using the handheld digital of his last few films, his camera is no less alive. See this in biggest, loudest screen possible. 2023 Ranked (https://boxd.it/kiMdu)
