What a film. Reminded me a lot of one of my all time favourite directors, Tarkovsky, in the mystery and cinematography. The lack of real answers makes this even better and I definitely need to rewatch this. Simply fantastic.

Sabe como eles chamavam hipnose no Japão? Possessão espiritual.... Uma série de assassinatos misteriosos, em sua maioria contra mulheres, chama a atenção das autoridades e um detetive mergulha cada vez mais fundo na psiquê de um suspeito que ao mesmo tempo que é alguém, aparentemente inocente, também é desnorteado e muito suspeito. Sendo um filme de investigação policial que têm como foco o desnorteamento de seu protagonista, mas não só ele, todo o ambiente as pessoas e as situações são filmadas em planos longos, demorados e, apesar do espaço grande, é claustrofóbico e não te deixa respirar. Conforme o protagonista adentra o mistério e a investigação, sua mente também se deteriora e a direção junta do trabalho de fotografia explora bem esse sentimento, principalmente mesclando imagens que ele viu, cenários que ele visitou e tragédias que ainda não aconteceram ou podem acontecer. "Cure" é um filme provocativos, instigante e que te deixa tenso a todo momento e quando chega no seu clímax... Você recebe respostas ao mesmo tempo que mantém as necessárias em mente, um filmaço!

It's eerie yet takes its time with it, lets you soak in it, knowing you won't get any closer to fixing everything before throwing another question your way, masked in polite curiosity The only question that matters is "why?"; there's no answer. I was absolutely mesmerized by this film, Kurosawa is so effective with slowly building tension and an overwhelming sense of dread. So many shots where he just lets you sit in the uncomfortable silence, letting your imagination run wild with possibilities of what will happen next. Sound design is immaculate, and incredible performances all around. The ending leaves you questioning everything you’ve just witnessed, floating in ambiguity. Perhaps my new favorite crime thriller? Definitely need to revisit this one again someday.
