Table 19
Table 19 was a surprising film, making me cry instead of laugh. This film is set up like the typical comedy, with a great cast and plot that makes it seem like it's going to be a rom com. But, this film was taken in a different direction, which was fresh and unique, but didn't quite serve everything the film needed. This film was set up to be a comedy, and does have many aspects of it, but there really aren't any jokes that are funny. Kendrick is the funniest character in the film but isn't very funny. Instead, these characters are driven by emotions, specifically love, or a lack thereof. Table 19 is a very personal film about love and life, a very surprising shift from the comedy that it seemed to be. Many of the characters needed a little more time to be introduced, since their introductions seemed to be in fleeting moments. But, these characters were still easy to get attached to and easy to relate to. Table 19 didn't go in the direction that I was expecting, managing to make me extremely emotional. This isn't the lighthearted film that the trailers make it out to be, but still is a solid romance that tries to set itself apart from the typical romance comedies.
